WANNA INCREASE YOUR IQ? THEN READ THIS...

There are no limits to self improvement! And if you go to the gym, why not to work out your brain? Especially, when scientists have refuted the stereotype that people are born with a given level of intelligence and proven that we can increase our potential.

By learning new skills our brain can develop further. Different activities stimulate different areas of the brain, some create new neural pathways that make it work faster and better. So, using them on practice you work out your brain intentionally being totally in control of the process.

Here is a list of practices that scientist suggest to do every day if you want to maximize your intellectual potential, no matter how smart you are now:

1. Playing music.

Playing musical instruments strengthens the corpus callosum that links the hemispheres of the brain by creating new connections. An improved corpus callosum helps with executive skills, memory, problem solving and overall brain function, regardless of how old you are. Thus, playing music helps with creativity, analytical skills, language, math, fine motor skills and more.

2. Reading.

First of all, reading makes you feel better by reducing your stress. It also increases all three types of intelligence – crystallized, fluid and emotional – which helps with problem solving, putting different pieces of knowledge together to better navigate everyday life, detecting patterns, understanding processes and accurately interpreting and responding to other people’s feelings. And, surprisingly, no matter what you read, the benefits of reading are always the same!

3. Learning a new language.

To improve your memory learn any foreign language. This enables your brain to better perform any mentally demanding tasks, including the typical executive skills such as planning and problem-solving. Speaking at least two languages positively affects your skill to monitor your environment and to better direct your attention to processes. And after all, knowing another language might be the last missing link people need to get their brain ready to take on C-level jobs.

4. Meditation.

According to a research of Richard Davidson, meditation enables us to control our own brain waves and feel whatever we want to feel whenever we want to. In 1992 the Dalai Lama invited Davidson to study his brain waves during meditation to find out whether he could generate specific brain waves on command. And when during the meditation Dalai Lama and monks were asked to focus on compassion their brain waves showed that they were in a deeply compassionate state of mind. Thus, training to control our mind, we can feel more powerful right before a negotiation, more confident when asking for a raise and more convincing during a sales call.

5. Integrating cumulative learning into your self-improvement program.

The trouble with all that knowledge we get at college and university is that we tend to forget it quickly. This happens because we are rarely required to repeat that knowledge in that same way. At the same time studying a new language makes us smarter, because what we learn, the grammar and vocabulary, is repeated countless times. And this is how the cumulative learning works. To apply the concept of cumulative learning to your everyday life, try to keep the track of noteworthy bits of knowledge you acquire. Go through takeaways from recent books, observations from your work, or keep a small journal with anything that strikes your attention.

6. Working out your brain.

Increase your neuroplasticity using activities like puzzles, sudoku, riddles, board games, video games, card games, and similar. The neuroplasticity increases when nerve cells respond in new ways which makes us inclined to see things from different points-of-view and understand cause and effect of behaviors and emotions. The games work in a way that launches a wide variety of changes in neural pathways and synapses that is basically the ability of the brain to reorganize itself. Thus, due to these simple practices we become aware of new patterns and our cognitive abilities are improved.
