5 Incredible Examples of Human Bodies That Challenge The Law Of Time


Nothing is eternal, they say. We got completely used to realizing, that all we see around us will, eventually, turn to dust. Every rule, though, has its exception. The following are 5 examples of human bodies, that refused to decompose:

1. Saint Catherine Laboure


A member of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, Saint Catherine Laboure stated that she had several times been visited by the Virgin Mary. In her later years, the visionary fully dedicated herself to caring about the aged and infirm. Catherine passed away in 1876 at the age of seventy and received a burial ceremony. Her body was exhumed in 1993, when Catherine was canonized, and it is now displayed in Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Paris, France.

2. Lady Xin Zhui


Xin Zhui was the wife of a Chinese nobleman in the period of the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD). She lived an extremely extravagant lifestyle, enjoying silk clothes, the variety of imperial foods and own musicians. Her tomb was accidentally discovered in 1971 and has since been considered one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the 20th century.

3. Dashi-Dorzho Itigilov


Itigilov was a highly respectable Buddhist lama in Russia in the early 1900s. It is said that Dashi-Dorzho perished in deep meditation, fully aware of his approaching death. His body was unearthed as per his testament after several decades and is still kept on display in Ivolginsky datsan, Russia.

4. Saint Benita Zita


Since her childhood she worked as a servant in Fatinelli household and was known to be very kind and helpful to the poor. Zita died in 1272, and was canonized 300 years later. Nowadays, believers celebrate her feast day and many chapels exist throughtout Europe, commemorating the Italian saint. Her mummified body is currently on display in the Basilica di San Frediano in Lucca.

5. La Doncella


The life of this Incan teenager was sacrificed during a religious ritual near present-day Argentina nearly 500 years ago. La Doncella was an aclla, or Sun Virgin, chosen and sanctified as a toddler to live with other children, who would later become royal wives, priestesses, and sacrifices. Ritual sacrifices in the Inca society were performed to ensure health, rich harvests and preferable weather. Due to cold conditions and dry air, she was preserved well being found in 1999. La Doncella is considered to be the best preserved Inca mummy ever found.
