I AM DELIGHTED TO LEAVE MAN UTD - DI MARIA
Argentine winger, Angel di Maria is set to complete his long awaited move to French champions Paris Saint-Germain, and the midfielder says he is happy to be leaving Manchester United.
Di Maria arrived Old Trafford as British football’s most expensive signing in a £59.7m move from Real Madrid in the summer of 2014 but is yet to justify his pricetag.
The Argentina is presently in Doha – the base of PSG’s Qatari owners – undergoing a medical and is expected to fly to Paris on Wednesday to complete £44.3m move after finalising his physical examination at the Aspire sporting complex.
Telegraph UK quotes him saying: “I am happy because PSG wanted me to come here and that makes me very happy. After that, I will try to do things the best I can and will try to work hard and give it all I can like I have done in other clubs.
“I hope things go well and that we can win many titles. I know PSG won everything last season and every title and that is important for a big club.
“They reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, so my objective is to arrive in Paris and help them through the quarter-final barrier, which they have struggled to do in the past two seasons.
“I will try to do the best I can to help the club reach those objectives and pass the barrier of the quarter-finals of the Champions League.”
A week ago, Man Utd manager, Louis van Gaal, declared the winger missing. Di Maria failed to report back for pre-season training as planned on July 25, and Van Gaal confirmed that he had not boarded a plane to meet his team-mates in San Jose as planned.
The Dutchman further explained that after United went down 2-0 to PSG in a pre-season game in Chicago on Wednesday night, the player went AWOL, while Laurent Blanc, the PSG manager, revealed that talks are at an advanced stage.
